Favorite spooky game... The Forest of Drizzling Rain, probably. I absolutely recommend getting the remake off Steam. (and then crying about my son Suga)

Oooh, I've heard of this game and wanted to play it, I didn't know it got a remake!! I'm so glad a lot of classic RPG Maker games have been getting remakes, the Ib and Witch's House ones made me so happy :> I'll have to play it!

Favorite spooky game is Alien Isolation. Doesn't really fit the Colors theme, but that trope of feeling like you're always being watched and there's no way out and every inch of ground you make feels like the biggest achievement ever. That's the good stuff.

Oh man there is noooooothing more scary to me than feeling watched/chased in a video game. That's some really effective horror and it makes every success a massive milestone...!

i love the when they cry games so much. higurashi hits a lot of those folk horror notes that i love and umineko is solidly gothic horror, which are coincidentally my two favorite genres of horror!

HIGURASHI YES Higurashi was one of my first visual(/sound) novels that I read, it has a really special place in my heart. Good choices!! Surprisingly enough I haven't read/experienced Umineko yet, but I know it's super good, so maybe this spooky season is the time!

i admittedly don't play a lot of horror/spooky games? i guess what i can think of that that fits it close enough that i enjoyed a lot was dead space (1), the atmosphere is absolutely top notch down to your character breathing more heavily the less health you have and just being more sluggish in general, and they amped that up to 11 in the remake!

Honestly I don't play very many horror games, either...! I'm much more of an atmospheric horror kind of person, where the environment itself is challenging enough that it feels "heavy" for lack of a better term, so that sounds exactly up my alley.

Ahh I've not heard of this (I'm realizing there are a lot of horror games i'm unfamiliar with OTL which is great for recommendations at least...) but I love that aesthetic so much! Super unique and I can see how much character it has with the art style alone!

Favourite spooky games are Ib, which is one of the few horror games I managed to play through, as well as Soma, which haunts my waking thoughts to this *day*.

Definitely Outlast! But I'm also a huge fan of The Witch's House in terms of shorter games.

The atmosphere from Outlast is top-notch! I feel like it would terrify me just to load it up which is the mark of a good horror game imo. And The Witch's House...! Another RPG Maker Horror game that I got totally obsessed with back in the day (and that twist still sticks with me to this day).

I don't play a lot of horror games, but the last one I remember playing is probably Corpse Party (I never finished it so I ended up watching a walkthrough of it a year or two ago)

Corpse Party is a really good one! I first played it on the PSP many moons ago and the atmosphere is still really really good imo - that chase section halfway through still gives me shivers...

Fantastic choice...!! The tension in Alien is like. Unrivaled imo, that oppressive feeling of being trapped somewhere with something otherworldly and using your wits to survive... Horror is really interesting to me for the amount of emotion it can evoke.

(Also Alien always makes me think of this tweet now which I constantly quote whenever I take my cat to the vet lmao)

my favorite horror game of all time is soma, but i play so many and so often that i'm second guessing... lately i really love the rusty lake series. my favorite trope? city of the damned, especially played for comedy and/or commentary!

i don't play many scary games, so i was terrified at the first few chapters of the silver case. even if tsc isn't a proper horror game (the mood changes a bit as the story advances), i was chilled by the beginning! i just can't resist a nice investigation game...

I'm discovering that there are a lot of horror/unsettling games that I haven't heard of and need to play - The Silver Case is one of them! that neo-noir aesthetic is just so (chef's kiss)

i'm a weenie who can't do conventional horror games in terms of jumpscares or spooky imagery, but special mention goes to 999 which i love and which instilled a sense of lowkey paranoia that someone was going to suddenly kill me that i was jumpy for days and afraid of the dark for a while...

YES 999..!! 999 really sets the standard for tension/suspense horror in video games I think, and it really uses its medium to its advantage (especially the DS). It's an immersive experience and I dearly love the characters to this day... Although I definitely would second that lowkey paranoia feeling wew

Yessss Ib is an ultimate classic for me, it honestly kind of... changed my life trajectory in a way lmao, it got me interested in learning Japanese to read and translate fan comics and covers. I'll always be grateful for it for that, and I was so happy it got a remake!

I'm not a very spooky person but I agree with above comments that 999 slaps. In general I like more of a "gothic" horror vibe like sexy vampires or werewolves or whatever. A metaphorical scariness, if you will.

That's a great kind of scariness imo, any story that captivates us has to have a really unique and captivating atmosphere. Very few things have as captivating a vibe as gothic horror!
